We Three Kings of Orient Are

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to rein

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Pray'r and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and Sacrifice
Alleluia, Alleluia
Earth to heav'n replies

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

The wise men followed the star to give their best gifts to the Christ child.  I guess this is part of the reason why we choose to exchange gifts at this time of year - in remembrance of the first gifts that were given on that first Christmas night.  Here are some of the gifts I have received because of my new job.  I received a jar of fudge (it had nuts so I gave it to Kathy), a wheat bag (to get rid of all my aches and pains), some lotion, and a book.  I am so blessed to have such a great job.  I really do enjoy working with and playing with the little kids.  I hope we can follow the "star" (or the Spirit) to the people in our lives that we need to help.
Instead of gold, frankincense and myrrh, however, I hope we can give love, patience, and understanding.

  1. This was always one of my favorite songs at Christmas time but I had never heard of all of the words.
