I know these aren't lillies, but I thought this scripture went along with the sunflowers I saw also.
"For, consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin;
and the kingdoms of the world, in all their glory, are not arrayed like one of these.
For your Father, who is in heaven, knoweth that you have need of all these things.
Therefore, let the morrow take thought for the things of itself."
-- D&C 84:82-84
As I drove home from Kendra's place, I saw millions of sunflowers along the roadsides. They were everywhere. I know the sunflower fairy didn't come along and plant them, so they must be tough flowers. They continue to come back year after year and they survive even in the hottest climates. I think they are beautiful. They are always looking to the sun - the source of their energy. They turn their heads all day to focus on the sunlight - they are always looking for the good in the world. Maybe we can each be more like these beautiful flowers. If we look to the Son (Jesus Christ) then we can receive the strength we need to survive this tough old world. If we turn our heads to Jesus Christ then we can find the direction we need in our lives. He will help us through each day of our lives if we turn our life to him. We can find the help we need to not only survive, but to thrive. If we keep focused on the light we will be alright.
"And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare a way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led."
-- 1 Nephi 17:13
I loved this final picture. It looks like the flower is waving at you.
Let's all smile and wave - just smile and wave!
Great quotes and comments Becky. Thanks for remiinding us of what we have.
ReplyDeleteToday in the chapel we had two boquets of sunflowers. I noticed Sister Kershaw felt them to see if they were real. The Kershaws gave some beautiful talks on the Temple today.
Wow, look at you, Camera pro Becky! Those pictures look beautiful. I think you could even print those out for some wall art. I think that they are beautiful too, and actually I've been meaning to take some pics of them too. Thanks for the message too. It carries a lot of meaning. Love you, Beej.
ReplyDeleteI loved the sunflowers all the way home from Kendra's house, but I didn't get any really good shots going 65 mph down the freeway and I didn't really have a place to stop. When I went to the cabin, I stopped just past Newdale and took these shots. I was pleased with how they turned out. I needed the message as much as anyone.
