Did you see what I SAW?

This is the saw that Uncle Lyle gave to Mom.  Dad had a new handle made for it.  There were supposed to be holes for each of the screws to fit into, but one was missing.  We did the next best thing - we are gluing the screw in the hole.  We aren't planning on using the saw, so it shouldn't really matter.  It will look better this way.  Dad wanted to buy a new piece of wood to mount the saw on but Mom came up with a different idea - she wanted some old barn wood to use.  Kathy manages some rental properties here in town and one has a really old barn on it.  We asked if we could get an old piece of wood from the barn and she said sure.  She was scared of critters living in it so she wouldn't go with us, but all we found were about 5 pigeons.  They weren't happy with our intrusion on their home, but we managed to get our piece of wood.

Dad cut the board to the right size and cleaned it.  Then Mom put some varnish on it.  Here is what the wood looks like up close.  Notice the old saw markings in the wood.  I think it looks pretty cool.  When we get it done, we will probably hang it up in the cabin somewhere.  I may have to go back and get a picture of the barn - we planned on doing this and then forgot.

Dad says you can't find wood this thick and old in this good of a condition.

We know where to get more if you dare bother the pigeons again.
