Today, Micah and Tyler had fun (working hard) making Mount Tyler and The Micah River. They decided to build a river and a huge volcanic mountain in the sandbox. They spent a lot of time digging out the path for the river to flow (the hose) and what should appear, but a huge mountain of sand in the middle. I explained to Micah that when I was a kid we used to spend hours in the sand building the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. We used the hose to fill it with water and sometimes we had tunnels, volcanoes, and lakes. She thought it would be a great idea to try this so we enlisted Tyler's help and set to work on our project. When we got ready to add the water, we had Grandma & Grandpa come watch. It was a blast! We had to make a few adjustments, but we had great success. Tomorrow when Katrina and the kids come we plan to set off the volcano. Hopefully it will all go as planned.
P.S. Micah can totally give you blueprints and scaled diagrams for recreating this in your own sandbox.
Your mountain and canyon was great. Grandpa and I enjoyed seeing it. It's been a long time since my kids played in the sandbox. Way to go Becky, Tyler and Micah.
ReplyDeleteThat reminded me of how dirty and how much trouble we managed to create when we were growing up. Good reminder for me to take it easy on my own kids too. I just let K&K go to town today outside in the sprinklers, slip-n-slide, mud hill, trampoline, waterguns .... That's part of what makes childhood so great. I hope they have a good one, cause you can't get it back, right?
