Surviving the Dentist

I had to go to the dentist today.  I thought I was going to get 2 temporary crowns put on.  when I arrived, they decided to take more x-rays of my whole mouth and see if I needed any other work done.  Well, I haven't been to the dentist for about 1 1/2 years so of course I had 3 cavities.  Well, Dr. Crofoot thought these were more important than the crowns so he decided to fill the 3 cavities today and wait to see how much insurance money I have left before we decide what to do about the crowns.  I had a large cavitiy on the bottom left side, one cavitiy on the top left side, and one cavitiy on the top right side of my mouth.  I am grateful for the decreased pain due to the numbing stuff, but most of my mouth and nose are now numb.  The only part of my mouth that isn't numb is the part I had anticipated getting work done on.  I have another appointment in a couple weeks and they will do what they call a "build-up" on my 2 teeth that need crowns.  They will have to wait until next year to do the crowns because of the limit on my insurance.  Also, he took some nifty pictures of my mouth and showed me that I have 2 other teeth that have small cracks in them that will eventually need crowns.  Good thing I have insurance.  I just hope my teeth will gradually break so the insurance will pay for them as I need them fixed.  Oh, and while Dr. Crofoot was filling my cavities, he actually found another small one to fill but he didn't charge me for it.  I was really grateful for that.  I really like Dr. Crofoot as a person and as a dentist.  He and his wife have been in our ward for a couple of years now.  They have a set of twins that are about 4 years old, a boy and a girl.  He opened his dental office on main street here in Sugar City - it is on the corner where we used to have the lunch room for the old high school.  It looks completely different inside and it is very nice to have it so close to home.  Anyway, it hasn't been that great of a day, but I am very glad I have a job with great benefits - when you add the money that your insurance pays then it makes it seem like you are getting paid a lot more.  Having been without insurance, I truly appreciate any and all help that I get - even if has to be through a dentist visit.

Sorry that was so long and boring - I'm just trying to wait out the numbness before I eat . . .

  1. You are lucky to finally have some insurance. I'm sorry you have so many problems with your teeth. Guess you take after your Mom in that respect. Darn.
